geography

Spring streams

The Seebach arises from the confluence of the Leimbach and Kieselbach south of Hellenhahn-Schellenberg .

However, some see “Leimbach” only as a name for the upper reaches of the Seebach .

Leimbach

The Leimbach is about 2.2 kilometers long, northern and right source brook of the Seebach . Its catchment area is 1.86 km².

It arises in two spring branches northeast of Hellenhahn-Schellenberg at the foot of the Wißnerberg . The right branch, about 160 meters long, rises in a small wood at an altitude of 486  m above sea level. NHN ( ). The left source branch is significantly longer at around 470 meters. Its source is at an altitude of 497  m above sea level. NHN ( ).

After the confluence of its two source branches, the Leimbach initially flows in a southerly direction, then turns to the southeast, passes Hellenhahn-Schellenberg and finally joins the Kieselbach coming from the east to the southeast of the village .

Kieselbach

The Kieselbach near Hellenhahn-Schellenberg

The Kieselbach is about 1.3 kilometers long, southeast and left source brook of the Seebach . Its catchment area is 3.31 km². Some consider it to be the tributary of the Seebach.

It arises from several spring branches east of Hellenhahn-Schellenberg. Its longest source branch rises southwest of a garbage dump at an altitude of 501  m above sea level. NHN ( ).

After the spring branches have merged, the Kieselbach first flows in a north-west direction, turns a wide arc around the Hohenscheid to west-south-west and then flows south-east of Hellenhahn-Schellenberg at an altitude of 452  m above sea level. NHN with the Leimbach coming from the north .

course

After its two source brooks have merged, the Seebach initially flows to the southwest, then crosses under the K 51 ( Secker Straße ), where it is fed shortly afterwards on its right by a small brook coming from the Eichelhof . The Seebach now runs southwards, bordered on the right by fields and meadows and on the left by the trees of a corner of a forest extending to the north. The stream meanders through the forest and after about 450 meters a small forest stream runs to the northwest of the Eulsberg on its left side. Then the Seebach changes its direction of flow to the southwest and moves along the southern edge of the forest. After almost 400 meters it leaves the forest, changes to a landscape of meadows and fields and about 450 meters later takes on a meadow stream. There is also a small pond there . The stream now reaches the Seebachtal nature reserve and, after a good kilometer, the Wiesensee . The Hüttenbach flows into this lake, along with a few other small tributaries . After a good two kilometers, the Seebach leaves the Wiesensee and moves southwest past a trout farm and finally flows into the Schafbach just under 200 meters southeast of the outskirts of Hergenroth .
