Kingsglaive is set in the fictional world Eos . This world consists of various nations, four of which once had magical crystals. At the time of the film, Lucis is the last nation to have such a crystal and to use it to defend the kingdom from the Niflheim Empire. However, Niflheim uses a peace negotiation to attack Lucis. King Regis then instructs his special unit Kingsglaive, whose members have magical powers, to defend Lucis.
