Kōichi Yamadera

Kōichi Yamadera ( Japanese 山寺 宏 一 , Yamadera Kōichi ; born June 17, 1961 in Shiogama , Miyagi Prefecture , Japan ), nicknamed Yama-chan (山 ち ゃ ん) and Bazooka Yamadera , is a Japanese voice actor (Japanese Seiyū ) and actor , narrator and entertainers.

life and career

Yamadera studied economics at Tōhoku Gakuin University , a private university in Aoba-ku , Sendai. Before making a name for himself as an actor and voice actor, he was the manager of the Tagajō Senior High School Basketball Team . He was known to radio listeners as Bazooka Yamadera. He gained further fame through his roles in the anime films Ninja Scroll (as Jūbei Kibagami), Cowboy Bebop (as Spike Spiegel), Ghost in the Shell (as Togusa), Neon Genesis Evangelion (as Kaji Ryōji), Anpanman (as Cheese ) and Ranma ½ (as Ryōga Hibiki). He also spoke different minor roles in the Pokémon films. He was the Japanese voice actor for Sheriff Woody in the movie Toy Story . Because of his large vocal range, he has been repeatedly referred to as the man who can conjure up seven voices out of a hat (“Voice of Seven Colors”). He often plays characters who are cool, heroic, but also comedic. When his colleague Kei Tomiyama passed away in 1995, he took on much of his ongoing roles, including Donald Duck , Beast in Beauty and the Beast , Djinni in Aladdin , Mushu in Mulan , Stitch in Lilo & Stitch and Sebastian in Arielle the Mermaid .

In the Japanese language versions of her films, Yamadera acts as the voice of Jim Carrey and Eddie Murphy . He has also lent his voice to Stephen Chow , Robin Williams , Brad Pitt and Jean-Claude Van Damme . He also appeared in the Japanese version of Let's Dance on the side of the dancer Hisako Ōshima.

Marriages

In 1993 he married the voice actress Mika Kanai , from whom he divorced in 2006. He has been married to voice actress Rie Tanaka since June 17, 2012 .

Award

For his work as a voice actor in anime films, he was honored with the “Kei Tomiyama Award” at the third presentation of the “Seiyu Awards”.
