Battle of the Gods saga
Four years after Son Goku and his friends defeated Boo, 778 by the Dragon Ball era, Beerus, the god of destruction, awakens from decades of sleep. In his dreams he had a vision of a super Saiyan god who should be an equal opponent. Once there was a super Saiyan god by the name of Yamoshi who wanted to fight the evil Saiyajin. However, it failed. Together with his teacher Whis, he goes in search of this super Saiyan god and finally tracks down the last remaining Saiyajins Vegeta and Son Goku. He happened to end up at Bulma's birthday party.
Disappointed that Son Goku and Vegeta don't know anything about the Super Saiyan God, he takes part in the birthday party and enjoys the delicious food on planet earth with Whis. When Boo angered him, however, he then vows to destroy the earth. Son Goku confronts him and finally manages to stop him by briefly transforming himself into a super Saiyan god. Exhausted from the fight, Beerus returns to his home planet.
Whis, who is enthusiastic about earthly food, now visits Bulma regularly, who provides him with the most exquisite dishes so that he would protect her and her family from Beerus if necessary. On one of these visits, Vegeta finally persuades Whis to take him under his wing and train him on Beerus' home planet.
Golden Freezer Saga
About a year later, 779, - in the meantime Son Gohan and Videl's daughter Pan was born - Whis also takes Son Goku with him to train him. Meanwhile, Freezer is revived by his henchmen and trained for his revenge.
After four months of training, Freezer arrives on earth with an army of 1,000 men. Piccolo, Son Gohan, Tenshinhan, Krillin, the Lord of the Turtles and the space policeman Jaco - who warned them of Freezer's arrival - manage to stop Freezer and his army until Vegeta, Son Goku, Beerus and Whis return to earth.
In his training, Freezer has reached a new level of transformation: the "golden Freezer". Opposite are Vegeta and Son Goku, who, after training with Whis, can transform themselves into a super Saiyajin with the power of God. Freezer is initially stronger than Son Goku, who first fights him, but then increasingly loses strength as maintaining his new form saps his strength. Son Goku sees the fight already won and no longer pays attention to his cover, which is why one of Freezer's men can seriously injure him from behind.
While Goku is healed, Vegeta continues to fight for him. Since he hesitates the moment to kill Freezer in order to properly enjoy it, Freezer has the opportunity to destroy the earth and kill all of its inhabitants, except for the spectators of the fight, who were enveloped in a force field by Whis. Freezer himself escapes because he can survive in space.
But since Whis has the ability to turn back the time three minutes, Son Goku can still kill Freezer before he destroys the earth.
Universe 6 saga
Some time later, Beerus' twin brother Champa from the neighboring sixth twin universe becomes aware of the delicious earthly food during a visit to Beerus. Since the earth is an uninhabited planet in his universe, he wants to transfer the earth from Beerus' seventh universe into his universe. He suggests a competition for Beerus in which five representatives from each of the sixth and seventh universes should fight for the earth. If Beerus' team wins, Champa wants to give Beerus six of the seven planet - sized super dragon balls that can fulfill absolutely any wish. Beerus agrees to the tournament.
For the sixth universe and Champa, the bear-like Botamo, Freezer's doppelganger Frost, the metal man Magetta, the young Saiyan Cabba and the hit man hit. For the seventh universe and Beerus, Son Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta and Monaka compete, who Beerus claims to be the strongest fighter he has ever fought. Since Boo, who should also have started, does not pass the preliminary round test, Beerus' team starts decimated.
Son Goku wins the first fight against Botamo, but then loses to Frost. After he has also defeated Piccolo, it turns out that he has used an unauthorized body weapon and is therefore initially disqualified. At Vegeta's urging, Piccolo resigns from the tournament and Frost's disqualification is lifted so that Vegeta can defeat the cheater in a fight, which he easily does. Vegeta can also win the fights against Magetta and Cabba. But first he teaches the young Saiyan Cabba how to transform himself into a Super Saiyan.
Using a mysterious technique, Hit succeeds in defeating Vegeta with ease, whereupon Son Goku, whose defeat was withdrawn because of Frost's deception, takes on him. With Jaco's help, Son Goku succeeds in realizing that Hit can stop time for 0.1 seconds. Hit can increase this standstill even further as the fight progresses. Only with his latest technology - the tenfold Kaioken in the Super Saiyan God form - can Son Goku Hit Hit into a corner. But when he notices how the technology is affecting his body and the assassin Hit cannot develop his true strength because he is not allowed to kill his opponent, Son Goku gives up.
As the last fighter, Monaka steps into the ring, shaking, who, contrary to Beeru's statement, is very weak and was only used by him to motivate Son Goku and Vegeta. But Hit can be defeated without further ado, because he would like to thank Goku for his strength increase. So Beerus and the seventh universe is the winner of the tournament. With the Super Dragon Balls he has won, Beerus wishes that the earth of the sixth universe would be inhabited again, so that Champa could still get his longed-for earthly meal.
Enthusiastic about the tournament, Zeno, the king of everything , announced that he would also organize a tournament in which all twelve universes should now take part.
Some time later Vegeta ends up on the planet Potaufeu. That is where the long-sealed Superhuman Water has just been released. This water can turn into exact replicas of fighters, robbing them of all their powers and abilities. Fighters of whom such a copy was made dissolve into nothing after a short time. When the water copies Vegeta, Son Goku must rush to his rescue and kill the copy before it dissolves.
Future Trunks Saga
Universe tournament saga
The tournament announced by Zeno should now take place. In the pre-tournament, Universe 7 fights against Universe 9 with three different fighters each. Universe 9 competes with Basil, Bergamo and Lavender, all three wolf-like creatures. Gohan, Son Goku and Boo fight for Universe 7. At Boo's side is Mister Satan, since Boo only does what he tells him to do. Boo just wins the first fight. The second fight, in which Gohan starts, ends in a draw. In the end Son-Goku can win the third fight and thus the preliminary tournament. The high priest reveals that not all universes will take part in the right tournament, only those with a too low level of development. The universe that wins the tournament is to be preserved while all others are to be wiped out by King Zeno. Universes 1, 5, 8 and 12 do not have to participate as their level of development is high enough. Universe 9 has the lowest development level, Universe 7, in which Son Goku lives, the second lowest.
Now Goku and his friends have to choose 10 fighters from Universe 7 in order to compete with them in the tournament. Son Goku, Boo and Son Gohan are fixed from the start. Goku tells Gohan that the losing universes should be wiped out. Gohan then says that nobody should find out about it, otherwise panic could break out. The first fighter, besides the three who were represented in the exhibition match, should of course be Vegeta. However, he does not want to take part in the tournament, as he wants to be there when his second child is born, which is imminent. Whis solves the problem without further ado by using magic to get the baby, who will later be named Bra, out of Bulma. Son Goku and Son Gohan choose Piccolo, Krillin, C18, C17, Tenshinhan and Muten Roshi as further fighters for the tournament, but some of them do not want to take part. Son Goku persuades his friends by telling them that the winning team's fighters will receive 10 million Zeni, but that is not true. Apart from C17, he doesn't tell anyone about the impending extinction of the universe. Most of them suspect that Goku withholding something from them, but still agree because of the prize money waving to them. Shortly before the start of the tournament, Son-Goku found out that Boo fell asleep and could no longer be woken up. Even Goku can't wake Boo, which is why he is forced to look for another fighter. Goku then goes to the afterlife to ask Freezer to fight in the tournament. Freezer agrees on the condition that if they do win, he will be brought back to life. Uranai Baba then brings Freezer back to this world, where he can remain dead for up to 24 hours. In the meantime, Goku's friends have found out what the tournament is really about. Krillin and C 18 want to get out, but since Beerus threatens them with immediate destruction, they remain his team. The finished team consists of Son-Goku, Son-Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, C 17, C 18, Krillin, Muten Roshi, Tenshinhan and Freezer.
Production and publication
The anime was created by Toei Animation and directed by Kimitoshi Chioka . The character design was created by Tadayoshi Yamamuro and the artistic direction was Shinzō Yuki . The episodes have been broadcast since July 5, 2015 on Sundays at 9:00 local time on Fuji TV and the rest of the network. Toei Animation's branches in Latin America have secured a license for localization.
Since 23 October 2016, the streaming service is DAISUKI the series with English subtitles in North America, the UK, Spain, Germany and other European countries in simulcast , Russian and Spanish subtitles are added later. Crunchyroll and AnimeLab started simulcasting the same day, but Crunchyroll only started in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America and South Africa, and AnimeLab only in Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the latest episode, the three providers also published all episodes of the future Trunks saga. Every week 10 older ones are to be added in addition to the newest episode.
In Germany, the first 52 episodes of the series were broadcast on ProSieben Maxx between September 4, 2017 and November 16, 2017 . From June 11, 2019, the first broadcast will continue from episode 53 on the station.

The music for the series is from Norihito Sumitomo . During the first 76 episodes, the song Chōzetsu Dynamic was used for the opening credits ! ( 超絶 ☆ ダ イ ナ ミ ッ ク! , Chōzetsu Dainamikku! ) By Kazuya Yoshii . From episode 77 the title song is Genkai Toppa x Survivor ( 限界 突破 × サ バ イ バ ー , Genkai Toppa x Sabaibā ) by Kiyoshi Hikawa . The credits of the first 12 episodes are highlighted with the title Hello Hello Hello ( ハ ロ ー ハ ロ ー ハ ロ ー , Harō Harō Harō ) by Good Morning America . From episodes 13 to 25, the credits with the title Starring Star ( ス タ ー リ ン グ ス タ ー , Sutāringu Sutā ) of the group KEYTALK are underlaid. From episodes 26 to 36 is the final song Usubeni ( 薄 紅 , dt. Light pink) by the group LACCO TOWER . From episodes 37 to 49 the credits are underlaid with the song Forever Dreaming by the group Czecho No Republic . The closing song of episodes 50 to 59 is Yokayoka Dance ( よ か よ か ダ ン ス , Yokayoka Dansu ) by the group Batten Shōjo-tai . The sixth final track song Chāhan Music ( 炒飯 MUSIC) by the Arukara group can be heard from episodes 60 to 72. From episode 73 to 83, the end credits are backed by the song Aku no Tenshi to Seigi no Akuma ( 悪 の 天使 と 正義 の 悪 魔 , German Evil Angel and Just Devil ) by The Collectors . From episode 84 to 96 is the credits song "Boogie Back" by Miyu Innoue.
Manga
Since June 2015, appears manga to TV series in the magazine V Jump of Shueisha . Akira Toriyama develops the story conceptually and supports the implementation, while Toyotarō implements the concept narrative and graphically. So far, the individual monthly chapters have been published in ten volumes. The manga has been translated into German since May 2nd, 2017 by Carlsen Manga , who have already translated Dragon Ball. Eight volumes have currently been published in Germany.
The plot of the manga differs from that of the anime in some places. For example, in the manga, the inhabitants of a planet tried to use a poison to kill Beerus. Beerus punishes this with the destruction of the entire planet. In the anime, Beerus only destroyed half the planet because Beerus tasted the food, but it was too unhealthy for him.
In addition, the Golden Freezer saga was not adapted in the manga, as it was already adapted by Toyotarō for the release of the film Resurrection 'F' in 2015, which has almost the same plot as in the anime series.

Movie
After the series ended, a film based on the series' plot was announced. The film was planned for 2018 and revealed as the antagonist the character Broly, already known from three DBZ films, this film introducing him to the official DB canon for the first time . The film premiered on November 14, 2018, while the Japanese theatrical release took place on December 14, 2018.
