Dragon Ball Z Special: Son-Goku's father - the Bardock Special is the first of two "specials" for the anime series Dragon Ball Z , which on the manga series Dragon Ball of manga artist Akira Toriyama based. The film first ran on Japanese television in 1990 (between episodes 63 and 64) and was released on DVD in Germany in 2004 . Carlsen Comics brought out the accompanying anime comics Dragon Ball Z a year earlier (issues 49-52).

action

The film begins before the destruction of the planet Vegeta , the home planet of the Saiyajins, and the birth of Son Goku. Bardock, Goku's father, and his friends and comrades in arms, like all Saiyajins, are under the command of the tyrant Freezer. You should conquer the planet Kanassa and kill its inhabitants on his behalf.

A survivor named Toro gives Bardock the "vision blow". He gives him the ability to see into the future and to experience the fate of the Saiyajin people. Bardock's companions kill Toro and everyone returns to the planet Vegeta. While Bardock is being healed in a regeneration capsule, his friends are given the task of taking the planet Meat by Freezer. However, there they are attacked and killed by Dodoria, Freezer's personal henchman, and his soldiers.

The moment Bardock hears his newborn son Kakarott scream, his visions begin: He sees the destruction of the Saiyajin's home planet. He doesn't believe his vision and follows his friends to the planet Meat , almost all of whom he finds dead there. A dying companion tells Bardock of Freezer's betrayal and asks him to return to Vegeta and overthrow Freezer. A fight ensues between Dodoria, his soldiers and Bardock. Despite the difficulties that his visions cause him, Bardock defeats all soldiers. He is now facing Dodoria, who attacks and wounds him. Called back by Freezer, Dodoria leaves the planet Meat believing that she also killed Bardock.

During his return flight to the Saiyajin's home planet, Bardock's space capsule crosses the one in which his son Kakarott is. Bardock reaches his home planet seriously injured and learns that his son has been sent to earth to devastate it. Bardock is plagued by visions of the future again and he tries to convince the remaining Saiyajins of Freezer's plan to wipe out the Saiyajins and to fight the tyrant. In another vision, he sees his son Kakarott as a young man facing Freezer. The Saiyajins think Bardock is crazy and don't believe him. He decides to take action against Freezer alone in order to save the planet Vegeta and despite the overwhelming strength of Freezer's followers, he can advance to this. However, Bardock cannot prevent the destruction of the planet by Freezer. The Saiyans realize too late that he was telling the truth. Most recently, Bardock has a new vision of his son Kakarott and Freezer. In his mind he leaves the legacy on his son to avenge the Saiyajin people and the planet Vegeta.

Vegeta, the Saiyajin prince, who is on another planet on behalf of Freezer, is told that his home planet was destroyed by a meteorite. The space capsule with Kakarott is found on earth by the old man Gohan, who takes the child with him and gives him the name Son Goku .

In 2011, the film continued in a three-part manga called Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock . In this one learns that Bardock was not killed but was thrown back in time. During this time, the planet Plant, which was later renamed Vegeta and became the home planet of the Saiyajins, is threatened by Chilled, an ancestor of Freezer. In the end, Bardock transforms into a Super Saiyan and defeats Chilled. In his last breaths, Chilled passes the knowledge of the Super Saiyan on to his descendants. Generations later Freezer destroys the planet Vegeta for fear of him and the circle begins again.

As part of the Jump Festa 2012 , which was held from December 17 to 18, 2011, a 20-minute OVA of the manga was presented, which, however, has some differences. In March 2012, it was released on DVD along with the OVA Dragon Ball Z: Plan to Destroy the Super Saiyans .

This OVA is included in the game Dragon Ball Z for Kinect , which was released in October 2012, making it the first time it was released outside of Japan.
