description

The hall church has a polygonal end in the east and a roof tower with a portal in the west. The Gothic building, which dates back to the 13th century, was redesigned in the 18th and 19th centuries and restored in the 1990s. There is a walled up late Gothic portal on the south side. The upright rectangular windows are post-medieval. The high roof tower with a square lower floor and an octagonal upper floor has a curved slate-roofed dome on which sits a lantern crowned by a tower ball with the name 1724 on the weather vane.

The interior has galleries on two sides , in the north they are two-story. The polygon was separated in 1821 as a sacristy by a wooden wall with tracery arches .

The original frescos on the north inner wall of the church also date from the 13th century . The wall paintings and the preserved support beams only extend to the middle of the nave and give a picture of the original size of the church. From 1724 to 1729 the church was expanded to include the choir to its present size with three axes . The color scheme of the interior of the church with altar and pulpit , which is still visible today, was made in 1867. Behind the altar is the shrine for the sacraments and the episcopal consecration cross in a wall niche . In the outer wall there is an ogival panel with a recessed cross.

The organ with 10 registers , divided into a manual and a pedal , was built by Daniel Adolf Poppe in 1867 and extensively restored in 2009.

From 1870 to 1917 the church had two bells . The big bell had a relief with Schiller's head and the inscription "God alone for glory". In 1917 it was melted down for armaments purposes. The small bell with the inscription "God bless Großpürschütz" has been ringing alone since then, until in May 2012 a new 250 kg bell was consecrated. This was cast in the Maria Laach bell foundry and bears the inscription “God alone, honor”.
