Church of St. George the Great Martyr (Oglađenovac)
The Church of St. Great Martyr George ( Serbian Црква Светог великомученика Георгија Crkva Svetog velikomučenika Georgija ) in Oglađenovac , a village in the Opština Valjevo (municipality of Valjevo in western Serbia ), is an Orthodox Church .
The church was built from 1938 to 1940 and consecrated in 1962. It is dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr George . The church is the parish church of the parish of Oglađenovac in the Podgorina deanery of the Valjevo Eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The church building and the rectory next to it are in the center of the village of Oglađenovac. There are also four Serbian Orthodox village cemeteries in the village.

In addition to Oglađenovac, the parish (parish) also includes smaller parts of the neighboring villages: Gola Glava , Osladić and Družetić . The parish is the smallest parish in the entire Valjevo Eparchy and around 1000 people live in the parish.
However, this is not an obstacle for the parish to organize and support other activities of a cultural, educational and sporting character in the village in addition to the usual religious activities.
A specialty of the parish of Oglađenovac is that the local football club FK Mali Korak and the football stadium built in 2002 are owned by the parish .
Oglađenovac belongs to Opština Valjevo, in Okrug Kolubara in western central Serbia in western Podgorina , a historical region.
History and architecture
Before a separate parish was established for the village in the 1930s , the village belonged to these three Serbian Orthodox parishes: Bukovica , Kamenica and Miličinica . The three villages are all neighboring villages of Oglađenovac.
Preparations for the construction of the church began in 1935. In 1938 the construction of the church began on the site of Branislav and Dragić Lazarević , who came from the village and donated the space to the parish of Oglađenovac.
In November 1939 the foundations of the church were consecrated by priests Milorad Jovanović from the village of Osladić and Milivoje Nastić from Bukovica . A year later in November 1940 the church was finished and covered with a roof. After that, preparations began inside the church for the worship services in the church.
The church is a single nave church building with an altar - apse in the east and a church entrance in the west. A circular dome was built over the entrance in 1988 and covered with copper.
The interior of the church is not painted with frescoes . The church has an iconostasis with icons , which is typical for Orthodox church buildings .
In 1940, the Second World War had long since begun in Europe . And in April 1941, it broke out with the German attack in what was then Yugoslavia to which the village belonged .
After the end of the Second World War in 1945, the former Kingdom of Yugoslavia , which had been divided up by the Axis Powers in 1941 , became socialist Yugoslavia under the leadership of Josip Broz Tito .
On October 21, 1962, the church was solemnly consecrated by the bishop of the then eparchy Šabac -Valjevo Jovan (Velimirović). Around 3,000 believers came to the church inauguration.
The church was re-plastered in 1988 and the roof was re-tiled. Ceramic tiles and underfloor heating were installed in the church at the end of 2000.
Parish house
The rectory in Oglađenovac was built according to the project of Dr. Božidar Petrović , professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade .
The foundations and basement were built from 1990-1991 while the house was built and covered in 1994-1995. After that, the priestly family moved into the rectory. The house was completely completed by 2000. 58 companies from Valjevo, Belgrade and Šabac as well as the faithful from the parish of Oglađenovac participated in the construction of the rectory with dimensions of 20 × 11.5 m and a usable area of 600 m².
The roof of the rectory alone is 400 m² and consists of 6500 bricks. The rectory has a church hall, an office, a kitchen, a library and an apartment for the priest and his family. The rectory was inaugurated on July 21, 2003 by the bishop of the then eparchy Šabac-Valjevo Lavrentije (Trifunović), on the day of St. Prokopios , the Great Martyr .
The rectory is considered to be one of the most beautiful rectories in the entire Valjevo Eparchy.
Priest of the parish
With the decision of the then bishop of the eparchy Šabac-Valjevo Simeon (Stanković), the Bosnian priest Miloš Bogić was appointed the first parish priest of the parish of Oglađenovac in July 1941, during the Second World War. Priest Bogić served in the village until the autumn of the same year when, according to witness statements, he went to the Četniks of Dragoljub Mihailović and died in the war.
In November 1942, priest Bogić was followed by the newly appointed priest Ratibor Jevtić , born in the village of Belić , near Valjevo as parish priest. In autumn 1945, Father Jevtić from Oglađenovac was transferred to the neighboring village of Miličinica and became the new parish priest there. The parish of Oglađenovac remained vacant and the priests of the parishes of Bukovica, Kamenica and Miličinica served in the church.
Only on December 1, 1953 did the village get its own parish priest again. This was Tomislav Jovanović from the village of Osladić . On December 26, 1954, however, by the decision of Bishop Simeon (Stanković), priest Jovanović was transferred to the parish of the neighboring village of Kamenica. The parish of Oglađenovac remained vacant until 1956 and the priests of the neighboring parishes served in it.
Predrag Marković , also from Osladić, was appointed the new parish priest on November 21, 1956 . And on July 29, 1959, Priest Marković was transferred to the parish of his home village and Oglađenovac again remained without a priest of his own and was looked after by the neighboring parish.
On December 29, 1981, Father Grozdan Gajić from the village of Zabrdica was appointed the new parish priest by the bishop of the then Eparchy Jovan (Velimirović) and is still active in the office of parish priest of Oglađenovac. This makes him the longest serving priest in the parish.
