Church district An der Agger

The Evangelical Church District An der Agger is one of 37 church districts in the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland (EKiR) based in Gummersbach . To him are 25 parishes with about 88,000 evangelical church members. Its area is largely identical to that of the Oberbergisches Kreis .

In the 19th century, when the church district belonged to the Evangelical Church in the Rhine Province , it was also called Synod on the Agger . In 1880, it included the parishes of Claswipper , Drabenderhöhe , Eckenhagen , Engelskirchen , Gummersbach , Holpe , Hülsenbusch , Lieberhausen , Marienberghausen , Marienhagen , Müllenbach , Neustadt , Nümbrecht , Odenspiel , Rosbach , Ründeroth , Waldbröl , Wiedenest and Wiehl . In 1880 the synod had 22 pastors and assistant pastors and looked after 44,673 believers. Wilhelm Hollenberg was superintendent from 1886.

According to Rhenish church law, the church district is led by the district synod , which usually meets twice a year, by the district synodal committee and by the superintendent . Pastor Jürgen Knabe has been the superintendent since 2001.
