Geographical location

Schobüll with the dike-free coast from the sea

The district Schobüll extends to the northwest of Husum city area along the surf zone of the north of Hever nearby tidal flats in the North Frisian Wadden Sea south of Nordstrander dam on the right here adjacent Altmoränenbereich the Schleswig Geest . The village structure is to be clearly separated to the southeast by the adjacent open settlement structure in the direction of the neighboring district Hockensbüll , whereas the transition to the northwestern residential area Halebüll has already merged into one area. In the eastern part of the village there is a wooded old moraine, the local recreation area Schobüller Wald .

Schobüll is the only section of the Schleswig-Holstein mainland coast where the Geest slides down directly into the Wadden Sea basin of the North Sea to the west . As a result, it is also one of the few places on the North Sea that has not yet had to be protected by an upstream dyke line .

Former parish structure

Halebüll (Danish: Halebøl , Frisian: Hälbel ), Hockensbüll (Danish: Hokkensbøl , Frisian: Hukensbel ), Kronenburg, Lund and Porrenkoog were further districts of the municipality of Schobüll, which was independent until 2006 . This was last administered by the Hattstedt Office.

history

Schobüll is a church village and was first mentioned around 1200. The name is derived from Soubu or Skovby and means forest village (Danish skov ≈ forest). After the forest was cut down in the Middle Ages, a heather landscape was created . At the beginning of the 20th century, reforestation began. This forest has been part of the Schobüller Berg landscape protection area since 1954. In 1974 the Schobüller Forest was also declared a recreational forest by a Schleswig-Holstein state ordinance.

Little is known about the history of the church, the so-called little church by the sea ; however, it is believed that it was founded in the 13th century. The church is on "Schobüller Berg", 31 meters above sea level. NN one of the highest points on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast, and for a long time served as a navigation mark for ships entering Husum. The current nave was built around 1600. After the tower collapsed in 1780, the church received a new tower, which is lower and thus better adapted to the wind conditions on the coast.

After the annexation of Schleswig-Holstein by Prussia in 1867, a parish land municipality was formed from the area of the parish Schobüll . It comprised the four villages of Halebüll, Hockensbüll, Lund and Schobüll. On December 1, 1934, the parish district of Schobüll was dissolved and transferred to the new municipality of Schobüll.

Schobüll was incorporated into the city of Husum on January 1, 2007.

Individual evidence

  1. The German North Sea coast is 658 km long. Of this, only 12 km are without dike protection. Dunes replace the dike at Duhnen (...) and at St. Peter on the Eiderstedt peninsula. Then there is a dike-free coastal stretch at Schobüll [...]. There the high bank of the Geest directly approaches the sea. - See: Christian Degn u. a. (Ed.): Seydlitz 1. The German Fatherland.
