The Kleine Enz is the 20 km long orographically right upper reaches of the Enz in the northern Black Forest , Baden-Württemberg ( Germany ).

geography

course

The Kleine Enz rises in the edge of the forest west of Oberweiler at an altitude of approx. 769  m above sea level. NN . From here it flows through a sparsely populated valley and unites in Calmbach at 386  m above sea level. NN with the Great Enz , which runs almost parallel to the Enz in a not very large distance to the west . In front of the mouth of the Kleine Enz, the valley floor is nowhere more than 300 meters wide, above it the wooded slopes rise steeply to the plateaus on both sides, some of which tower over it by more than 300 meters. After its 20.2 km long path, initially mostly in a north-easterly direction, then longer in a northerly direction, it flows about 384 meters below its source, giving it a mean bed gradient of about 19 ‰.

The entire stretch of the Kleine Enz is accompanied by federal highway 294 .

Catchment area

The catchment area is a little over 88 km². It is largely forested and is located on the eastern edge of the Grindenschwarzwald and Enzhöhen natural area in front of the adjacent Black Forest edge plates .

The red sandstone of the northern Black Forest is to be found in the entire catchment area . The plateaus, especially in the east and on some layer islands on the ridge in front of the Großer Enz, are in the Upper Buntsandstein , the source rises in the border area to the Middle , which sets in below , which occupies the lower plateau portions and spreads out on the upper slopes, while the valley floor soon and then the lower slopes are also in the lower red sandstone until the end . In continuation of the initially north-easterly valley direction, there is a short fault, the floe of which is raised on the downstream side.

The 871.9  m above sea level. NN greatest height is on the south-southwest tip on a nameless flat plateau crest in the Enzwald above the Petersmühle von Enzklösterle in the neighboring Großenztal. Because of the small distance between the two upper reaches of the Enz, the Großer Enz in the west has only a not very small side stream from the shared watershed, the Kälberbach . Behind the ridge on the right side of the course lies the catchment area of the Nagold in the south and east , which competes with its large left tributaries Köllbach , Teinach and, most recently, Schweinbach .

The largest part of the catchment area belongs to the urban area of Bad Wildbad , which soon extends from the upper reaches to the left bank and finally across the river. The uppermost course is in the area of the municipality of Simmersfeld , after that the municipalities of Neuweiler and Oberreichenbach border on the right bank. Some places are located in small clearing islands on the accompanying plateaus, as well as over 2 km² of nature reserves with Missen , a type of shallow bog, typical for the region .
