The Kleine Freiheit is a passenger ship owned by the North German inland shipping company belonging to the FRS Group .

history

The ship was built in 1992 at the Ernst Menzer shipyard in Hamburg-Bergedorf for the Lühe-Schulau ferry and used as a Schulau on the Elbe between Wedel and Lühe .

In 2000 the ship was sold to the Kipp shipping company based in Breege on Rügen . It was used as a seaside resort in Juliusruh in the Rügener Bodden between Breege and Vitte on the island of Hiddensee . In 2016, the Kipp shipping company was sold to the Norddeutsche Binnenreederei, a subsidiary of the Förde Reederei Seetouristik , which also operated the route from Breege to Vitte with a larger ship.

The Förde Reederei Seetouristik has been using the ship since mid-April 2017 on a newly established ferry connection in Hamburg between the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken and Hamburg-Blankenese via Teufelsbrück . The line was operated by the FRS subsidiary FRS HanseFerry. The shipping company also marketed the ferry connection as a harbor tour. On the way from Blankenese to the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken, a detour along the Landungsbrücken to the Elbphilharmonie was made . The sights along the route were explained using an audio guide that could be used with a smartphone or tablet. Unlike the HADAG port ferries, the ferry connection was not integrated into the Hamburg transport association .

Ferry traffic on the Elbe was stopped in March 2020 and the ship was returned to the Norddeutsche inland shipping company. The ship was then temporarily laid up in Lauenburg .

The ship has been in service in Hiddensee traffic since May 27, 2020.

Technical specifications

The ship is powered by a Volvo Penta - Diesel engine (type: D12D-G MH) with 331  kW power driven. The cruising speed of the ship is 11  knots .

The ship is approved for 240 passengers. 30 bicycles can be transported on board. A maximum of 175 people are carried in Hiddensee traffic.
