course

The Kocába rises on the southern outskirts of the settlement Nová Hospoda belonging to Příbram IX. Its source is located a good kilometer east of the Svatá hora ( Holy Mountain , 586 m nm) in the Příbramská pahorkatina. The upper reaches of the Kocába initially leads northeast through Dubno ; after that the brook takes an easterly direction and flows over Dubenec , Cihelna, Skalka, Drásov and Prostřední Mlýn to Višňová . There the Kocába changes direction and flows northeast through the Dobříšská pahorkatina; along its sparsely populated and deeply incised valley follow the villages Chaloupky, Hora, Ouběnice , Skalice, Druhlice , Podedruhlice, Daleké Dušníky , Tuškov, Budín, Dolík, Rybníky , Vojířovský Mlýn, Lip, U Kalouníka, Porostovo Údolí Pouště, Na Kocábech, Strážovna, Kozí Hory and Podleský Mlýn. Then the Kocába flows through Starý Knín and Nový Knín . The stream then forms a deep valley with numerous loops and flows past U Kosaře, U Pařeza, Velká Hraštice, Spálený Mlýn, Za Kocábou and Velká Lečice . The Kocába then flows in the Lečice Cascade ( Lečická kaskáda ) with several rapids through a narrow rock valley. Opposite Malá Lečice, the stream is led in a short artificial breakthrough ( Průrva Kocáby ) through a rock spur, before the Mlýnská strouha ditch is diverted. The further course of the Kocába leads past U Kocáby, Borecký, Bratřínov and Fafkův Mlýn into the Střed Čech Nature Park. On its lower reaches, the brook winds south of Bojanovice and Masečín in several loops through Hadí řeka , a narrow rocky valley in which the trampoline settlements Havran, Rewaston, Dashwood and Askalona and the locality Na Papoušku are located. Then the Kocába reaches the Vltava valley and flows through the center of Štěchovice for its last 700 meters . After 47.2 kilometers, the Kocába flows into the Vltava above the Dr. Edvard Beneš Bridge between the bus station and the port in Štěchovice .

In its upper reaches the Kocába flows through the Příbram mountain area; The dumps and facilities of the former mine shaft 11 Bytíz extend south-east of Dubno. a. the Příbram prison is located. The water power of the Kocába was previously used to operate numerous hammer mills and mills. A powder factory and two powder mills used to stand in the Kocába valley above Štěchovice; in the 1920s arose in the valley u. a. the trampoline settlements of Utah, Havran, Rewaston, Dashwood, Askalona, Louisiana, Maják and Kansas. A section of the Karel Čapek educational trail ( Naučná stezka Karla Čapka ), which was laid out between 2011 and 2012, leads through the Kocába Valley.

From Rybníky, the Kocába is navigable over a length of 30 kilometers when the snow melts, after heavy rain or when the ponds are being drained. However, there are several obstacles in the largely natural course of the stream, such as rapids, trees, walkways and paddock fences. The Kocába is diked and regulated for the last four kilometers.
