The Kochergasse is a street in the old town of Bern . It is around 200 meters long and leads from Bundesplatz to Casinoplatz . On the south side are the east wing of the Federal Palace and the Hotel Bellevue Palace , on the north side the Swiss National Bank and the “Bundeshaus Nord” administration building ( DETEC headquarters ).

Kochergasse is part of the Inner Neustadt, which was built between 1255 and 1260 as part of the second city expansion. Until 1740 it was called Judengasse , named after the Judentor, which was built from 1458 to 1473. The gate stood about 20 meters east of today's main entrance to the parliament building and was demolished in 1678 to make room for the ballroom . From 1740 the street was called Inselgasse , named after the Inselspital at that time . After the death of the Bern-born Nobel Prize winner Theodor Kocher , it was renamed Kochergasse in his honor in 1917.
