Technical specifications
The Komet is driven by an electric motor from LDW Abwicklungs GmbH of the type GC 395/102/6. The engine with 1,350 kW of power acts on a fixed propeller . The ship reaches a speed of up to 13 knots . Three diesel generators , each with an output of 640 kW (1,050 kVA apparent power ), are available to power the traction motor and the electrical system . A generator with an output of 232 kW (270 kVA apparent power) was installed as an emergency generator. The engines run on synthetic GtL fuel . The fuel is sulfur-free, which means better exhaust gas values are achieved than with conventional diesel fuels.
The ship is equipped with two transverse thruster systems, one in the bow with 1,000 kW and one in the stern with 125 kW.
The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice . The ship is classified with ice class "E".
commitment
The ship is mainly used for surveying work in the German twelve-mile zone and in the German exclusive economic zone of the North Sea . The ship has the appropriate equipment for this, such as logging , sonar systems and sounders . In addition, the Komet is equipped with four flat- going survey boats, which are also fully equipped with echo sounders and data acquisition systems in order to be able to operate independently in shallow waters ( mud flats ). One of the boats also has a fan echo sounder system for surveying the seabed.
The Komet has an operating radius of 5,400 nautical miles and can stay at sea for up to 21 days. There is space for 18 crew members and six scientists on board .
