Konrad Paul (* 1979 in Wernigerode ) is a German church musician , organist , conductor and composer .

biography

Konrad Paul received his first musical training at the Church of St. Sylvestri and at the State High School for Music in Wernigerode . In 1997 he was one of the winners of the national competition “ Jugend musiziert ” in Leipzig. Paul studied from 1998 to 2002 at the Musikhochschule Lübeck with Martin Haselböck and Lorenzo Ghielmi ( organ ) and Gerd Müller-Lorenz ( choir conducting ). This basic course in church music (with a diploma in church music B) and music education (with a diploma in music education) was followed from 2002 to 2006 by a postgraduate course in church music (diploma in church music A) and conducting at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater Leipzig . His lecturers included Arvid Gast and Georg Christoph Biller . At the same time, studying with Gerd Bahner and Michael Köhler between 2003 and 2006 led to a degree as Kapellmeister .

During this study period, Paul was able to take part in competitions and master classes specialize, with its main focus on the French organ music ( master classes with Marie-Claire Alain , Guy Bovet and Olivier Latry ), historical performance practice (Austria Baroque Academy) and the Organ Improvisation ( Thierry Escaich and Frédéric Blanc ).

Konrad Paul held the post of organist at the parish church of St. Johannis in Wernigerode and was an interim university organist in Leipzig. In August 2005 he took over the office of cantor and organist at the Evangelical Christ Church in Oberhausen , which also made him head of the Evangelical Singing Congregation in Oberhausen. With this nationally known choir, founded in 1932, he also works with various other ensembles in North Rhine-Westphalia, including the Philharmonie Ruhr, the Ruhr Symphony Orchestra, the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen , the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen as well as those who play historical instruments from the 19th century "RheinKlang" orchestra. In his role as choirmaster of the Evangelical Singing Community in Oberhausen, he conducted the world premiere of the Gethsemane Reflections (2014), six lyrical sketches by Martin Wistinghausen , in which the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen was also involved.

Until the end of March 2019, Paul was the district cantor of the Protestant church district of Oberhausen and in this role, among other things, a lecturer for the training of C church musicians. Lively concert activity led to performances in Hamburg ( St. Michaelis and St. Jacobi ), Dresden ( Frauenkirche ) and Görlitz ( St. Peter and Paul , sun organ). Since April 2019 he has been working at the Apostle Church and as district cantor in Münster.
