Konrad Wrede

Konrad Wrede (born August 30, 1865 in Peine , † November 21, 1947 in Hanover ) was a German military , art collector and patron .

Life

Born in Peine at the time of the Kingdom of Hanover , Konrad Wrede rose to the rank of Royal Württemberg Rittmeister in his military career .

After retiring from the military, he settled in Hanover, where he supported artists such as August Heitmüller as an art patron of the Republic of Hanover in the 1920s and 1930s . The passionate collector of art, antiques and stamps acquired works by the Impressionists in particular , such as Lovis Corinth and Max Slevogt .

Wrede donated valuable Wilhelm Busch autographs to the Wilhelm Busch Museum several times , including the colored handwriting of the picture story The Bunny and the original drawings of The Flea . From Wrede's legacy in 1948 came the handwriting of the picture story Fipps, the monkey .

After the Second World War, Konrad Wrede bequeathed his valuable collection, at the urging of Carl Küthmann , to the city of Hanover in 1947, the year he died.

Honor grave

Konrad Wrede was buried in a grave of honor at the Engesohde city cemetery , Department 1 , grave number 102a-102h . The tomb bears the inscription:

"His heart was open to art and life / full of love for collecting in order to give to others."
