Konstantin Semilakovs

Konstantin Semilakovs (born September 25, 1984 in Riga ) is a Latvian- German pianist and university professor .

Life

Konstantin Semilakovs received his first piano lessons in Riga at the Pavuls Jurjans Music School. In 1997 he moved with his family to Germany, where Julia Goldstein first became his most important musical sponsor in Hanover . He graduated from the Kaiser Wilhelm and Ratsgymnasium in Hanover in 2004 and then studied piano with Wolfgang Manz and music education with Ulrich Hench and Renate Reitinger at the Nuremberg University of Music . After the music education (2008) and artistic (2009) diploma, he began a pianistic master class, which he completed with honors in 2011. This was followed by studies at the École Normale de Musique de Paris in the "6ème Division" with Michael Wladkowski, which he graduated with a Diplôme Supérieur d'Exécution.

As a soloist , accompanist and chamber musician , he has been a. a. the International Beethoven Festival in Bonn , Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , Braunschweig Classix Festival and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern occurred. In 2010 he made his debut with the Nürnberger Symphoniker in the Meistersingerhalle with Beethoven's Fantasy for piano, choir and orchestra . In 2002 the first recordings were made for the North German Radio , the West German Radio and the Bavarian Radio .

He was u. a. Scholarship from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and the Niedersächsische Sparkassenstiftung , which enabled him to teach at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

From 2011 to 2018 Semilakovs taught at the University of Music in Nuremberg , from 2013 to 2017 at the University of Catholic Church Music and Music Education in Regensburg and from 2016 to 2018 at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg .

Semilakovs has been a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 2018 .

In addition to his artistic and educational work, he researches the phenomenon of synesthesia and "colourfulness" in classical music of the first half of the 20th century (especially in the compositions of Alexander Scriabin and Olivier Messiaen ) as well as the cross-sensory perception and cognition of musicians. The focus of his work lies in the relationship between overtone -based harmony , intermodal connection and consonance or harmony perception.
