Konstantinos (Kostis) Chatzidakis ( Greek Κωστής Χατζηδάκης , * 1965 in Rethymno , Crete) is a conservative Greek politician. He was Minister of Economy in the Samara cabinet .
Chatzidakis studied law at the University of Athens and continued his studies at the University of Kent .
He was general secretary of DAP-NDFK, a student union affiliated with Nea Dimokratia , and chairman of ONNED, the youth organization of the ND. From 1994 to 2007 he was a member of the European Parliament . As a representative of the European People's Party, he was Chairman of the Committee on Transport and Regional Policy. In the election in September 2007 he was elected to the Greek parliament for the first time . From September 2007 to January 2009 he was Minister for Transport and Communication, then Minister for Development in Kostas Karamanlis's cabinet until October 2009 . In the elections in October 2009 , September 2007 , May 2012 and June 2012 he was re-elected as a Member of Parliament.
On December 15, 2010, while leaving an office building, Chatzidakis was attacked by violent demonstrators who had joined a previously peaceful demonstration by 200 leftists protesting against the country's economic policies. Chatzidakis was seriously injured. Until this event, it was common in Greece for even high-ranking politicians to move in public without any personal protection.
From June 10, 2012 he was Minister for Development, Competitiveness, Infrastructure, Transport and Networks in the Samara cabinet and, after the cabinet reshuffle, Minister for Development and Competitiveness from March 25, 2013 until June 10, 2014. On January 18, 2016 he was appointed from President of the New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis , together with Adonis Georgiadis as the party's new vice-president.
