Kospa is a district of the large district town of Eilenburg in the north-west of Saxony.

Geography and traffic

The place Kospa is directly on the state road 4 ( Delitzsch -Eilenburg) between Eilenburg and Krostitz . Kospa also has a local connection to Gallen (community Jesewitz ) and one to Wölpern (community Jesewitz). On weekdays, Kospa is served by buses in the direction of Eilenburg and Delitzsch. The next train station is Eilenburg . The nearby Wölpern stop on the Leipzig – Eilenburg railway line is no longer served.

history

Like most of the villages in the Eilenburg area, Kospa is of Slavic origin and has been expanded and expanded over time. The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1233 . The name Kospas, like most place names in the area, is of Sorbian origin. The name can be interpreted as a scythe maker, but also as a mockery, for example as a cutthroat. The original shape of the place is a round shape . The place is mainly characterized by the distillery built at the end of the 19th century. Kospa belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Eilenburg until 1815 . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the place became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which it belonged until 1952.

On July 1, 1950, the place Zschettgau, west of Kospa, was incorporated. In the course of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, Kospa and Zschettgau were connected to the Eilenburg district in the Leipzig district , which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 . On October 11, 1965, Kospa merged with the Pressen community to form the Kospa-Pressen community. Since January 1st, 1997, Kospa has been part of the city of Eilenburg.

Eilenburg's largest industrial and commercial area, "Am Schanzberg", is located between Kospa and Eilenburg. The Finnish paper company Stora Enso , the candy production company Henri and many other companies produce there .
