history

Wölpern was first mentioned as Vuelpride in 1161 . Later, after the Thirty Years' War , the place name was changed to Wölfern or Wolpern . The place belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Eilenburg until 1815 . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the place became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which it belonged until 1952.

In the course of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, Wölpern was attached to the Eilenburg district in the Leipzig district , which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 . On January 1, 1974, it was incorporated into Jesewitz.

In the past, peat was cut east of Wölpern . This was then used as fuel. The area is now a nature reserve and is managed by NABU by keeping Galloway cattle .

The Protestant church was built in the late Romanesque style in the 13th century, destroyed in the Thirty Years War and rebuilt from 1661 to 1664. The tower was rebuilt from 1837 to 1838.
