history

Groitzsch was first mentioned as Groitz in 1184 . At that time it was a castle fortress. This manor is used today for private residential purposes. The Kornhaus was built in the 18th century. A cemetery with a chapel belongs to the place.

Until 1815, Groitzsch belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Eilenburg . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the place became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which it belonged until 1952.

On July 1, 1950, the neighboring village of Kossen was incorporated. Belonging to Delitzsch, which had existed since 1816, was revoked during the 1952 regional reform and Groitzsch and Kossen were assigned to the Eilenburg district in the Leipzig district . On October 1, 1972, Groitzsch was incorporated into Gotha . After the German reunification , the Eilenburg district became part of the re-established Free State of Saxony. Since the municipality of Gotha with its approximately 280 inhabitants was too small to remain independent, it merged with Liemehna , Pehritzsch and Jesewitz to form the new municipality of Jesewitz with effect from March 1, 1994 . On the basis of the borders before 1994, four localities were formed within the municipality. The locality of Gotha with Gotha, Gostemitz, Groitzsch and Kossen is represented by the local council. The following regional reforms in Saxony assigned Jesewitz to a district of Delitzsch on August 1, 1994 and in 2008 to the district of Northern Saxony .
