Kowale (German: Kowall or Schmiede ; Kashubian : Kowol or Kòwôlewò ) is a village in Poland in the Pomeranian Voivodeship . She belongs to Gmina Kolbudy . The northern part was separated in 1973 and incorporated into the city of Danzig .

The village is about five kilometers southwest of Gdansk. The Voivodship Road 221 (DW 221) connects Kowale with Danzig and Kolbudy . There is also the access to the S6 expressway to the west of Kowale . The community is connected to Gdańsk public transport by bus.

The Osiedle Olimp (settlement Olymp) is characteristic of Kowale . The street names are almost entirely chosen from Greek mythology.

There is also centrally located at DW 221, the “Centrum Kowale” shopping and service center, which opened on December 7, 2012, has a Tesco supermarket, smaller boutiques, restaurants, a pharmacy, a pet shop, a bowling center and other service providers on one House area of ​​6200 m².

history

Kowale was first mentioned in 1398, when the local craftsmen, mostly blacksmiths and millers, were granted the right to grind grain. In 1772 the village was annexed by Prussia and separated from Danzig. At the end of the 18th century, the "Kowale homestead" was again taken to Gdansk. From 1818 to 1887 Kowall belonged to the district of Danzig and from 1887 to 1939 to the district of Danziger Höhe . During this time there lived 152 Protestants and 135 Catholics in Kowale. The village belonged to the parish of St. Adalbert in Bąków. Until 1922 the Catholic parish belonged to the diocese of Culm , since then to Danzig and the Protestant parish to the church district in Lublewo of the regional synodal association of the Free City of Danzig .
