Kraichgau-Sprinter is the name of an express train connection in the local traffic of the state of Baden-Württemberg from Öhringen via Heilbronn , Eppingen and Bretten to Karlsruhe . It is operated by the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG).

history

When, in 1999, line S4 of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn was extended from the then terminus Eppingen to Heilbronn Central Station , the establishment of a separate Stadtbahn system began in Heilbronn. In 2001 the tram line, which now ends at Heilbronn Central Station, was relocated to the station forecourt and extended through the city center to create harmony .

In order to offer commuters and schoolchildren in particular faster connections between Heilbronn and Karlsruhe, the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft increasingly used express trains on some of the routes it operates, which only stop at larger train stations .

However, in order to establish a very fast connection between the two cities, the AVG introduced the so-called Kraichgau Sprinter on December 14, 2003 for the 2003/2004 timetable change , which ran as an express train between Heilbronn Harmonie and Karlsruhe main station . This train stopped at every stop between Harmonie and Heilbronn main station. Between Heilbronn Hbf and Karlsruhe Hbf it only stopped in Eppingen, Bretten and Karlsruhe-Durlach . When in 2005 the Heilbronn inner-city route was extended to the Pfühlpark and then via the Heilbronn – Crailsheim railway to Weinsberg and Öhringen , the start and end point of the Kraichgau sprinter was moved to Öhringen Cappel during the week . Since then, the Kraichgau Sprinter has been running twice in each direction, Monday-Friday, between Öhringen Cappel and Heilbronn Hbf (station forecourt) with stops at all stations on the way, then only in Eppingen, Bretten and Karlsruhe-Durlach, to Karlsruhe main station in around an hour. At the weekend it only runs from / to Heilbronn Pfühlpark.

Train run

The Kraichgau Sprinter runs between Öhringen and Heilbronn Trappensee on the DB Crailsheim – Heilbronn line ("Hohenlohebahn"). Then the line swings over a ramp into the inner city route of the Heilbronn light rail , which it follows to the Heilbronn station forecourt with stops at all stops on the way. Then she turns onto the Kraichgaubahn , which she follows - only with stops in Eppingen and Bretten - to Grötzingen station. The line then swings onto the Karlsruhe – Mühlacker railway line , which it follows with a stop in Karlsruhe-Durlach to Karlsruhe main station .

Vehicles and tariffs

The rolling stock of the Kraichgau Sprinter - just like all other trains that run on the Kraichgau Railway - is modern electric multiple units of the types GT8-100D / 2S-M and ET 2010 as well as a few even older GT8-100C / S of the Albtal-Verkehrs- Society (AVG) used.

The tariffs of the Heilbronner Hohenloher Haller Nahverkehr (H3NV) apply between Öhringen and Eppingen , then the tariff of the Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (KVV) to Karlsruhe . The tariff of Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) also applies to the entire route , although the Kraichgau Sprinter is operated by the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft, as well as the Quer -übers-Land-Ticket and the Baden-Württemberg-Ticket .

Service offer

Since December 2003, the Kraichgau Sprinter has been operating twice a day in each direction from Karlsruhe via Eppingen and Heilbronn to Öhringen. This stops to Heilbronn Hbf only in Karlsruhe-Durlach, Bretten and Eppingen, then, to Öhringen, on weekends only to Heilbronn Pfühlpark, everywhere, and takes 61 minutes for the Karlsruhe-Heilbronn route. In contrast to the normal light rail trains, which take around 90 minutes, and the other express trains that run through the city center of Karlsruhe, the Kraichgau Sprinter will bypass them.
