The Kreideberg near Ellerode is a nature reserve in Witzenhausen in the Werra-Meißner district in the north of the state of Hesse . The area forms a Natura 2000 protected area (no. 4524-303) with the same area size and extent . The reserve is 57.1 hectares in size.

The nature reserve is on the border with Lower Saxony and there between Atzenhausen in Lower Saxony and the A 7 running south . The Hessian village of Ellerode is directly south of the motorway. The nature reserve is located in the Berlepsch-Ellerode district of the city of Witzenhausen. The area is privately owned. The responsible forest office is Hessisch Lichtenau. The nature reserve was designated on March 7, 1995.

Characteristic of the nature reserve is a semi-natural, rich textured limestone - Buchenwald with a high proportion of old stocks. The forest stands worthy of protection are assigned to the woodruff beech forest (about 32.8 ha) and the orchid beech forest (about 6.34 ha).

The adjacent semi- arid grassland areas rich in orchids (approx. 0.21 ha) are located in the transition area to agriculturally used areas and orchards . There is also a well-preserved limestone swamp in the area. Davall's sedge ( Carex davalliana ), a character species of the basic Kleinseggenriede , reaches the northern limit of its distribution in the area.
