history

The Kreissparkasse Rhein-Pfalz was founded in 1853 as a savings and aid fund for the Mutterstadt district , and in 1892 the company moved to Ludwigshafen. The institute, which at that time was trading as the District Savings Bank Ludwigshafen am Rhein , was finally given permission in 1925 to discount bills of exchange and to carry out securities and custody transactions.

In the 1920s and 1930s, the business area of the Sparkasse expanded further. New acceptance points were opened in the communities of Böhl , Dannstadt , Fußgönheim , Hochdorf and Neuhofen (all in 1927), and in 1928 the main office moved to Lichtenberger's house at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße 28. In the mid-1930s, the municipal savings banks in Altrip , Iggelheim , Mutterstadt and Rheingönheim as well as the Stadtsparkasse Oggersheim were taken over, which was also reflected in the change of name to Kreissparkasse Ludwigshafen am Rhein .

During the Second World War , the air raids on Ludwigshafen also completely destroyed the Lichtenberger House . During the reconstruction until 1949, emergency operation was maintained in the basement of the building. The balance sheet total was up in 1953 to ten million German marks increased, total deposits exceeded in 1969, the 100-million mark limit.

The main office was relocated to a new building on Berliner Platz in 1971 . Due to the district reforms in Rhineland-Palatinate in the 1970s, some branches of the Kreissparkasse Bad Dürkheim ( Maxdorf ) and the Kreissparkasse Grünstadt ( Birkenheide , Bobenheim and Rödersheim ) were taken over, as the affected places were now in the newly formed Ludwigshafen district. In 1990 the balance sheet total grew to over a billion marks, six years later the two billion mark was exceeded. The institute has been called Kreissparkasse Rhein-Pfalz since the district of Ludwigshafen was renamed Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis in 2004.
