Werner Schröter

Werner Schröter (born June 28, 1944 in Heiligenbeil ) is a former German wrestler and politician ( SPD ).

Career as a wrestler

Werner Schröter has been involved in wrestling from childhood. He started at TSG Haßloch , started in the various youth and junior classes and reached the top German class in the Greco-Roman style at the end of the 1960s. He then moved to VfK Schifferstadt , for whom he worked as a wrestler and trainer for many years. With this club he became German team champion in 1967, 1969, 1971 and 1976 and as a coach in 1988 and 1990. Later he was also honorary chairman of the VfK Schifferstadt. In 1970 Werner Schröter became vice world champion in the welterweight class and in 1974 vice European champion in the middleweight class , each in the Greco-Roman style. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he remained undefeated in four fights, but had to retire after three undecided fights against strong wrestlers from the Eastern Bloc because he had reached the fault limit.

Career as a politician

Werner Schröter grew up in Haßloch ( Palatinate ) and now lives in Maxdorf ( Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis ).

He was able to gain experience in local politics in the Haßloch local council and in the district council of the Bad Dürkheim district . His professional career began with the city administration of Ludwigshafen am Rhein. There he already completed his training, and later he was office manager of the social democratic mayor Erich Reimann and the free democratic alderman Karl-Horst Tischbein for 17 years. In 1990 he became head of the Ludwigshafen sports office. In this position he was the interlocutor for 150 sports clubs with 50,000 members.

From 2001 to 2009 the social democrat was the district administrator of the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis (until December 31, 2003: Ludwigshafen district, for whose renaming he campaigned). As the first incumbent, he was directly elected by the population for eight years.

Werner Schröter has been Vice President of the State Sports Association of Rhineland-Palatinate since June 26, 2010 - responsible for competitive sports.

Honors

In 2017 Schröter was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .
