Max Mitterbichler (born January 12, 1947 ) is a former German wrestler .

Life

Mitterbichler began wrestling as a teenager at TV Traunstein . He later moved to AC Bad Reichenhall , where Josef Paar shaped him into a top German wrestler. He wrestled exclusively in the Greco-Roman style. In 1965 he became German youth champion (age group up to 18 years) in the weight class up to 79 kg body weight. In 1967 and 1968 he took 2nd place at the German junior welterweight championships.

In the seniors he won his first middleweight title at the German championship in 1970. He won before the veteran Peter Nettekoven from Dortmund and Reinhold Hucker from Unterelchingen . In the following years he also did very well at the German championships. In 1971 he was the second winner behind the actual freestyle wrestler Peter Neumair from Hallbergmoos , but again stayed ahead of Peter Nettekoven.

In 1972 he took 3rd place in the German middleweight championship behind Reinhold Hucker and Peter Nettekoven. With this 3rd place, he had practically blocked the way to the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . Nevertheless, he did not give up and was again German middleweight champion in 1973 before Richard Rotter from Reilingen and Helmut Gerlach from Aschaffenburg . In 1974 Mitterbichler finally achieved third place in the German championship, behind Vice World Champion Werner Schröter from Schifferstadt and Reinhold Hucker.

In 1970 and 1973 Mitterbichler represented the Federal Republic of Germany at the European Championships in Berlin and Helsinki , respectively, in the middleweight division. He achieved only moderate success, he only finished 11th both times. At other international tournaments he was more successful. He won the 1973 middleweight tournament in Klippan, Sweden, ahead of Volker Zwick from the GDR and the Russian Stepanenko. In 1970 he finished 2nd in the middleweight division behind Roland Andersson from Sweden at a tournament in Savona and in 1969 and 1974 he reached 3rd place at the international wrestling tournaments in Bad Reichenhall .

In 1975 Mitterbichler ended his international wrestling career. He fought for AC Bad Reichenhall in the German Bundesliga for a few more years. He is the owner of a heating construction company in Traunstein and lives in Chieming .
