Art in public space in Güglingen
The list of public art in Güglingen shows the modern and old works of art that are publicly accessible in the city of Güglingen (Heilbronn district).
Note: The terms public art or art in public space are understood here in the broader sense as art in urban space , as this term is used in #Rall 1990 and on the websites of the city of Güglingen and the Art for Güglingen Community Foundation (see web links ). All works of art that are publicly accessible are therefore taken into account, including works of art that are in buildings, e.g. B. in the Mauritiuskirche, in the town hall or in banks and inns.

Reconstruction of the Mauritius Church
In 1976/1977 the Mauritius Church in Güglingen was rebuilt and renewed. The architect Heinz Rall and the pastor Werner Marquardt also brought in artists to design the church interior. This is how the first modern works of art were created in the public space of Güglingen:
- the murals by Adam Lude Döring
- the glass windows by Gerhard Dreher
- and a crucifix by Gunther Stilling .
"Art in urban space"
The renovation of the Mauritius Church was followed by the renewal of the historic city center. The lead management of the project was in the hands of Heinz Rall, who included "art in urban space" in the planning from the outset. According to Manfred Volk , the mayor of the city, this was not based on a finished concept, rather art in public space developed "in step with the urban and architectural redesign", and "for many others, Heinz Rall ... managed to do it almost unnoticed, to establish “art in urban space” with other artists and followers of art. In doing so, he «educated» us to be critical open-minded towards art. ”According to Heinz Rall, the following principles were observed in artistic street furniture:
- “An important tool for the significance of this city is the integration of art. Works by contemporary artists, historical finds and handicraft contributions give the town center its special character. "
- “Most of the artists were involved in the planning at an early stage. Instead of a purist concept, the stylistic pluralism of our time should come into its own and a broad spectrum of artistic forms of expression should be realized. "
Artistic street furniture
The first work of art was intended for the former tithe barn, which was the first building to be renovated in 1978 for the Volksbank. Guido Messer created two door handles for the bank, two bronze medallions with the suggestive title “poor and rich”. They show a world-ruling “money shit” enthroned on top of the globe and, on the dark side of the globe, the poor emaciated by hunger. This was followed in 1979 by Ursula Stock's Weinbrunnen in the Deutsches Hof, the open-air sculpture “The Guardian” by Richard Hess and three facade emblems by Lee Babel (see cover pictures).
In the period that followed, many more objects were added:
- architecture-related works of art created for specific buildings,
- site or historical works of art,
- handicrafts,
- and historical finds and replicas.
By 1990, 20 artists from Germany contributed to the artistic furnishing of the city. In addition, 40 artists donated pictures for a modern version of the destroyed historical Güglinger palm cloth in the Mauritius Church. To date, over 40 works of art have been created that have been displayed in the urban space.
Community foundation art for Güglingen
In 1981 Heinz Rall founded the art association Bürgerstiftung Kunst für Güglingen . The founding members included the mayor Manfred Volk and the pastor of the Mauritius Church Werner Marquardt , who both campaigned for the promotion of art in the city. The aim of the association is to enlarge the art collection of the city of Güglingen and to maintain Güglingen's reputation as an art city by “introducing citizens to art and enabling them to meet artists of our time”. Since 1989 the association has held almost 90 exhibitions in Güglingen's town hall, at which the town of Güglingen made purchases almost regularly.
