Kurt Felkl

Kurt Felkl (born October 7, 1918 in Brüsau ; † February 19, 2013 ) was a German surgeon , urologist and retired medical officer . D. the Bundeswehr . He was last there from April 1975 to March 1979 chief physician at the Bundeswehr Central Hospital in Koblenz .

Life

Felkl was born the son of an electrical engineer, first grew up with his grandmother and moved with his family to Brno in 1922 . After graduating from high school, he began studying human medicine in 1937, but had to interrupt it for military service on the German side after the annexation of the Sudetenland .

In January 1939 he was drafted into the 65th Infantry Regiment in Delmenhorst and was transferred to the 71st Artillery Regiment in September 1940 as a medic. Despite further missions at the front with Roslavel and Smolensk , he was able to continue his studies in Göttingen from February 1941 and passed the medical state examination in 1944. Towards the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the US, from which he was released in 1945.

After the end of the war , Felkl came to Berlin via Bad Pyrmont , where he last worked as a senior physician at the Rudolf Virchow Hospital . This was followed by the specialist certification for surgery in 1954 and for urology in 1957.

In November 1957 he joined the Bundeswehr., Where he was first in rank staff physician as medical officer in the Tank Battalion 5 in Nienburg / Weser worked and in August 1960 in the central hospital of the armed forces has been placed in Koblenz, from 1970, the current Bundeswehr Central Hospital emerged. Here he was initially a ward doctor, but soon became head of the urological department until he took over the management of the central hospital in April 1975 and was appointed general doctor. He retired on March 31, 1979 and then worked for several years as a consultant to the pharmaceutical industry.

Felkl was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in November 1977 .
