Kurt Richard Geipel (born July 13, 1902 in Netzschkau , † September 1, 1944 near Montélimar ) was a German watercolor painter and designer.

life and work

Kurt Geipel was born in Netzschkau in 1902 and attended the art school in neighboring Plauen from 1917 to 1921 , before working as a designer and illustrator in Berlin for a few years . He created u. a. Illustrations for the Leipziger Illustrierte and Westermanns Monatshefte , where he enjoyed the support of the second wife of the abdicated Emperor Wilhelm II, Hermine Reuss , who was born in Greiz .

From 1929 he was on an extensive study trip to the Orient, which took him via Venice, Turkey and Israel to Egypt. As a landscape and animal painter , he preferred the watercolor, in this technique he developed the greatest virtuosity and in this regard exerted a great influence on later Vogtland artists such as Siegfried Hauffe and Manfred Feiler .

Geipel was a member of the Akanthus and Burgsteiner artists' associations and has been a teacher at the Plauen art school since 1933. During the Second World War he was used as a soldier in France (including Provence , the Pyrenees and Paris ) and fell on September 1, 1944 during Operation Dragoon in a battle in the Rhone Valley near Montélimar.
