education

Kurt Tecklenburg was the son of Major General Adolf Tecklenburg. He attended the Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium in Berlin until his Abitur in 1893. He then studied at the technical colleges in Berlin , Munich and Stuttgart . In 1897 he passed the first examination as a civil engineer for the railway construction trade and on November 15, 1898 began an apprenticeship as a government construction manager at the Railway Works Inspection Worms , which at that time belonged to the Royal Prussian and Grand-Ducal Hessian Railway Directorate in Mainz , the predecessor authority of the Reich Railway Directorate Mainz. After three semesters at the University of Strasbourg and further training in economics , he passed the second examination for the railway construction subject in 1903 and was appointed government builder in January 1903.

Railway career

In 1903 he worked for a few months at the railway operations office in Mainz . This was followed by professional positions in the railway departments in Berlin and, from 1907, Halle . From there he was entrusted with the construction of the main workshop in Delitzsch , which later became the Delitzsch repair shop . From the end of 1908 he worked in the Frankfurt am Main Railway Directorate and from 1911–1915 as head of the local Works Office I.

In 1911 he received his doctorate from the Grand Ducal Technical University of Darmstadt as Dr.-Ing.

In the First World War he took part in the administration of the field railways from 1915 to 1917 . On April 1, 1917, he was appointed government and building councilor. and was a member of the Kassel Railway Directorate . In 1920 he moved to the Reich Ministry of Transport as a consultant , was appointed senior councilor on April 1, 1920 and when the Deutsche Reichsbahn was founded in the same year he was a member of its head office. As early as September 1, 1921, he became director . In 1925 he held Section 22 under Director Max Kumbier in the main administration of the Reichsbahn, in the operations and construction department .

On June 1, 1933, he took over as President of the East German Railway Directorate in Frankfurt (Oder) . From here on October 1, 1935, he moved to the Reichsbahndirektion Mainz in the same position, an office that he held until his retirement in 1942. Tecklenburg joined the NSDAP in 1937, and in such a position it was natural that Kurt Tecklenburg actively supported National Socialism . The special edition of the official gazette of the Reichsbahndirektion Mainz of April 2, 1938 contains a "call for the Reichstag election on April 10, 1938" by Adolf Hitler and a fiery confession of the Mainz directorate: what will be sacred to us all more than ever from now on: a People, one empire, one leader! The President of the Reichsbahndirektion Mainz / Dr. Tecklenburg .

Important events in the history of the management during his tenure were the takeover of most of the Reichsbahndirektion Ludwigshafen in the Mainz management in 1937 and the inauguration of the extension building of the management (today: Kreyssig wing of the town hall in Mainz) in 1938 .

Memberships

Kurt Tecklenburg had been a full member of the Prussian Academy of Civil Engineering since 1928 and its extraordinary member since 1933.
