Kurt Thieme (born August 6, 1922 in Berlin ) is a former German politician ( SED ) and functionary. He was a member of the People's Chamber and Secretary General of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship (DSF).

Life

Thieme, son of a bricklayer , attended elementary school and also learned the trade of bricklayer from 1937 to 1939. He worked in this profession until 1941, then he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service and in 1942 for military service in the Wehrmacht . In 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets . From December 1948 to March 1949 he attended an Antifa school . Thieme did not return to Berlin until November 1949.

In 1949/1950 he worked as a technical secretary in the Berlin-Lichtenberg district office. In 1950 he joined the SED. From 1950 to 1951 he was chairman of the Berlin-Lichtenberg district executive of IG Bau-Holz and an employee of the SED regional leadership in Berlin. In 1952/1953 he was first secretary of the SED district leadership in Berlin-Lichtenberg. From 1952 to 1969 he was a member of the SED district leadership in Berlin. From 1953 to 1960 he was also a member of the council of the Friedrichshain district . 1953/1954 he studied at the party college of the CPSU in Moscow . He was then from 1954 to April 1960 first secretary of the SED district leadership Berlin-Friedrichshain, from May 1960 to 1963 first secretary of the SED district leadership Berlin-Mitte . From November 1963 to 1967 he held the office of permanent representative of the mayor of (Greater) Berlin (successor to Waldemar Schmidt ).

From 1958 to 1986 Thieme was a candidate for the Central Committee of the SED and from 1963 to 1981 a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR.

From 1967 to 1982 he was chairman of the secretariat or general secretary of the DSF central board and from 1968 to 1972 he was a member of the executive committee of the League for Friendship of Nations . From 1983 to 1987 he was director of the culture and information center of the GDR in the People's Republic of Bulgaria . In 1987 Thieme retired.
