Kurt Wilhelm Rothschild (born October 21, 1914 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; died November 15, 2010 in Vienna) was an Austrian economist.

Life

Kurt Wilhelm Rothschild studied law at the University of Vienna (Dr. iur.) And had to emigrate in 1938. At the University of Glasgow he studied economics and political philosophy (MA in Economics and Political Philosophy) and worked there from 1940 to 1947 as an assistant lecturer and lecturer. From 1947 to 1966 he was a research assistant at the Austrian Institute for Economic Research (WIFO) in Vienna and from 1966 to 1985 Professor of Economics at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz .

Rothschild was regarded as the doyen of Austrian economics .

His son is the literary scholar and journalist Thomas Rothschild .

Since 1998 the Economics Institute of the University of Linz has organized an annual Kurt W. Rothschild lecture in his honor .

The Renner Institute has been awarding the Kurt Rothschild Prize for Science Journalism since 2016 . The main award winners in 2016 were Peter Bofinger , 2017 Marcel Fratzscher , 2018 Heinz D. Kurz and 2019 Kate Raworth .
