Kurt Weg (musician)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kurt routes (* 11 July 1911 in Frankfurt am Main , † 5. April 1964 in Hamburg ) was a German woodwind , composer and orchestra leader in the field of swing and popular music .

Live and act

Wegen, who played clarinet , tenor and baritone saxophone , was a member of the orchestra Die Goldene Sieben ( St. Louis Blues 1937); He also played with James Kok ( Flying Hamburger 1934), Erhard Bauschke ( Nachts am Mississippi , 1937) and Peter Kreuder . He co-wrote the song I'm Happy But Sad! which Rudi Schuricke recorded for Odeon in 1941 . In the same year he recorded for Electrola under his own name ( Kurt Weg with his soloists ) jazzy instrumental versions of the tracks known from Rosita Serrano . It was always so nice with you and I do everything with music! that came from the musical comedy Anita and the Devil .

After 1945 he played in the Hamburg Radio Dance Orchestra , directed by Willy Steiner, on the North West German Radio ; there he was in charge of the “small line-up” of the orchestra (wind instruments and rhythm section ). In the summer of 1946 he took over overall management from Steiner. Conflicts soon arose over the role of the string section in the orchestra and the direction of the music. 1947 there were complaints from listeners who in letters to the Hörzu rejected any jazz orientation of the orchestra; on the other hand, there were also numerous petitions from jazz fans as a result . Due to tactical mistakes made by his colleague Friedrich Meyer , he was dismissed and, like Dorle Rath, he was initially given leave of absence.

For Lale Andersen he wrote the song Kleines Märchen , which the singer recorded in 1949 with Michael Jary's orchestra for Decca . In 1951 he accompanied the pop singer Gerhard Wendland with his orchestra on a cover version of Jay Livingston's song Mona Lisa ; he also recorded again in November 1951 with Rosita Serrano, who recorded the Georges Boulanger song My Prayer with a German text by Curth Flatow ( Eine Saite zersprang, Electrola EG 7702). He was also active as a film composer ( Der Mustergatte ; Director: Erik Ode , 1956). Shortly before his death, he presented an LP with music by Leroy Anderson . Weg died of a stomach ailment in April 1964 at the age of 52. He was buried in the Ohlsdorfer Friedhof in Hamburg, grid square AC 13 (west of the north pond ).
