Kylie is the debut album by Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue . It was released in July 1988.

history

After Minogue received a record deal with Mushroom Records in 1987 due to the success of her single Locomotion aka The Loco-Motion from Little Eva - number one in Australia - she flew to London with the label managers , where she met with the production team Stock Aitken Waterman . There I Should Be So Lucky, according to Mike Stock, was written while she was there and recorded in less than an hour. After the song's success, Stock flew to Australia and convinced Minogue to sing the rest of the debut album in London in spring 1988. Stock Aitken Waterman eventually took over the production of the debut album.

Success and criticism

Allmusic's Chris True wrote that even if the melodies on Kylie were nothing but “standard late eighties bubblegum ”, there was something like “lovable qualities”, also because she had more “personality” than her colleague Rick Astley . The rating was 2.5 out of five stars. The Digital Spy site awarded three out of five stars. The pieces "expired" like the hairstyle on the album cover, but the 80s charm of the record finally prevailed. The album reached number one and seven platinum in the UK and number two and five platinum in their home country of Australia . In Germany it reached number eight and gold status, in the USA it reached number 53.
