Léon Kalenga Badikebele (born July 17, 1956 in Kamina , Haut-Lomami , Belgian Congo ; † June 12, 2019 in Rome ) was a Congolese clergyman , archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

After his theological training, Léon Kalenga Badikebele was ordained a priest on September 5, 1982 by the Bishop of Luebo , François Kabangu wa Mutela . In 1988 he entered the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy in Rome. He also received a doctorate in canon law. On February 27, 1990, he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He was active in the papal missions in Haiti, Guatemala, Zambia, Brazil, Egypt, Zimbabwe and Japan.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on March 1, 2008 titular Archbishop of Magnetum and Apostolic Nuncio in Ghana . The episcopal ordination received his Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB on 1 May of the same year; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Francesco Coccopalmerio and Cardinal Agostino Vallini .

On February 22, 2013 Benedict XVI called him. to the Apostolic Nuncio in El Salvador . On April 13, 2013, Pope Francis appointed him in addition to the Apostolic Nuncio in Belize . On March 17, 2018, the Pope appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Argentina.
