Luigi Pezzuto
Luigi Pezzuto (born April 30, 1946 in Squinzano , Province of Lecce , Italy ) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .
Life
Luigi Pezzuto received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Lecce on September 25, 1971 . He was in the subject Catholic Theology doctorate .
On April 1, 1978, Luigi Pezzuto entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He was active in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Ghana , Paraguay , Papua New Guinea , Brazil , Senegal , Rwanda and Portugal . Luigi Pezzuto became a Chargé d'affaires on October 18, 1995 in the Apostolic Nunciatures in the Republic of the Congo and in Gabon .
On December 7, 1996 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To Titular Archbishop of Turris in Proconsulari and ordered him to the apostolic nuncio in the Republic of Congo and Gabon. The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on January 6, 1997; Co-consecrators were the official in the Vatican State Secretariat , Archbishop of Curia Giovanni Battista Re , and the secretary of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches , Archbishop of Curia Miroslaw Marusyn . On May 22, 1999, Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Tanzania . Luigi Pezzuto was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in El Salvador on April 2, 2005 . On May 7, 2005 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . also to the Apostolic Nuncio in Belize . On November 17, 2012, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro .
On January 16, 2016, Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Monaco . With the appointment of his successor Antonio Arcari , his work as Nuncio in Monaco ended on May 25, 2019.
