Lónya is a Hungarian community in the county Vásárosnamény in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County . It is located in the northeast of the country on the left bank of the Tisza and has 661 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011).
history
Although small, Lónya played a historical role as the seat of the noble Lónyay family , who are important in the region and who also owe their family name to the place. At the end of the 14th century the village split into two settlements: in Kislónya and Nagylónya ; the Lónyay family lived in Nagylónya. In 1934 Kislónya and Nagylónya were reunited to Lónya.
Attractions
The village is small but has many attractions. The reformed Protestant church in Romanesque style with the painted coffered ceiling from the XIII. Century stands in the Kossuth utca 91. The church consists of one room, has no tower. The bell tower with four side towers from 1781, standing on a beamed base in the garden of the church, is an art monument. The trunk and roof are covered with wooden shingles, the helmet of the 26.5 meter high tower is adorned with four smaller towers - sohn's towers.
A 6.3 hectare park belonged to the Lónyay Castle, which burned down in 1965. In the park you can still see some interesting plants: the avenue made of chestnuts, five 26-meter-high pyramidal oak trees that are at least 120 years old, but also the early and Tartar maples are more than 100 years old.
