Laila Samuelsen (born September 3, 1976 in Oslo ), also known as Laila Samuels , is a Norwegian singer-songwriter .

Life

Samuelsen grew up with two older sisters in Oslo. Her mother was a jazz singer, one sister is a saxophonist and three of her uncles are composers and musicians. Her grandparents played the piano, guitar and accordion.

Samuelsen began writing her first songs at the age of ten. Between the ages of 13 and 18, she sang in various bands until she became the lead singer of the Norwegian rock group The Tuesdays in 1996 . The band received a recording contract with Polygram Worldwide and later with Arista Records in New York. In 1998 she reached number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the single It's up to you .

Samuelsen also works as a songwriter for other artists. In 2015, together with Katrina Noorbergen and the Beatgees, she co-wrote several tracks on the album Crystal Sky by Lena Meyer-Landrut and on Jump the Gun by Ann Sophie . She also worked on songs for Maria Arredondo , Gaute Ormåsen , Alejandro Fuentes , Liv Marit Wedvik , Venke Knutson , Erlend Bratland , Didrik Solli-Tangen , Magnus Carlsson , Ivy Quainoo , Larsito , Marlon Roudette , Rea Garvey , Chima , Curse , MC Fitti , Lary , Stefanie Heinzmann , Kat Vinter and for the Japanese bands w-inds. and DiVA as author or co-author.

In 2006, she sang four songs on the album Kjøpr Gitar by Ravi , in 2010 she sang the title Phoenix of Vinni and the Vagabonds with and 2011. Only you can heal me of Melody Club .

Samuelsen has participated several times as a songwriter or co-composer in the Melodi Grand Prix , the Norwegian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . In 2008, the title Am I Supposed to Love Again ?, interpreted by Veronika Akselsen ? 4th place in the final. In 2009, the title Sweeter than a Kiss by Charite was eliminated in the semifinals. In 2010, Venke Knutson's Jealous' Cause I Love You reached the final but not the golden final of the four best entries in the Melodi Grand Prix. In 2014 Samuelsen wrote the song Heal , with which the artist MO took 3rd place at the Golden Final of the Melodi Grand Prix . In 2016, with her title Afterglow, she was a candidate for solo artist at the Melodi Grand Prix, where she took fourth place in the Golden Final.
