Lake Forest High School , or LFHS for short , is a public four-year high school located in Lake Forest , an affluent suburb of metropolitan Chicago , Illinois , in the United States . It is the only public school in Lake Forest Community High School District 115 and , as such, serves the communities of Lake Forest, Lake Bluff , Knollwood, and smaller parts of Mettawa and North Chicago . Students come from Lake Bluff Middle School , Lake Forest Country Day School , School of St. Mary's, and Deer Path Middle School .

history

The LFHS was built in 1935. The most recent additions were made in 2008, when a general area was revised and a new canteen and music piano were built, as well as other minor adjustments.

campus

The high school has both a studio theater and auditorium as well as a television studio with 5,500 videotapes. It also has computer rooms, a computer library with CD-ROM queries, school publication facilities, photo labs, and special educational facilities. The sports facilities are very close to the residential areas and include a climbing wall, an Olympic swimming pool with diving tower and a well-equipped school sports hall. The campus has a large sports field (for field hockey, lacrosse and ultimate ) and a running track and a football field with two stands. Because the school is very close to residential areas, the City of Lake Forest did not allow the school football team to use floodlights, but in 2006 the city permitted the use of floodlights for a night game on a one-off basis. In 2007, a referendum called for the football game to be relocated to West Campus, where floodlights are permitted. The referendum resulted in an overwhelming 2/3 majority, and the subsequent renovations took place in two phases. The first phase, which was completed during the current 2007/2008 school year, led to the construction of the music grand piano and the renovation of the west campus including the construction of a varsity field. The second phase, completed in August 2008, included renovations and new buildings on the east campus with a new cafeteria, a large atrium and library , as well as the construction of administrative offices on the west campus, and a new artificial turf football field with floodlights was also built on the west campus .

The average class size is 19.3. Lake Forest has passed the Adequate Yearly Progress of the Prairie State Achievements Examination , a state testing part of the No Child Left Behind Act .
