history

Lancrăm ( Langendorf ), in the Josephinische Landesaufnahme from 1769 to 1773.

Lancrăm was first mentioned in a document in 1309 and was a free village of the Transylvanian Saxons in the Middle Ages . However, the history of settlement in the region goes back to the Neolithic Age , according to reports by M. Wosinsky about archaeological finds of ceramic fragments . Furthermore, according to information from M. Csáki, some golden objects were found in the area of Lancrăm, which were subsequently cut up. According to JM Ackner , C. Gooss and P. Király, a Roman road ran across an area called "câmpia Ruzgă" ( Rosenfeld ) by the locals in the direction of Vințu de Jos ( Unterwintz ) .

At the end of the 18th and 19th centuries, Lancrăm was a center of icons - stained glass by the Costea family . The genealogy of the alleged painter family Costea cannot be confirmed with certainty.

Until 1919 the place belonged to Hungary and carried the Hungarian name Lámkerék .

population

At the census of 1850, 1248 people lived in the area of today's village. 1232 of them were Romanians , four Germans and 12 Roma . The highest number of inhabitants (1783) - both Romanians (1755) and Hungarians (25) - was reached in 1900. The highest number of Germans (12) was determined in 1966 and that of Roma (14) in 1977. In 2002 Lancrăm registered 1,468 people, 1,458 of whom were Romanians, five Hungarians and five Roma.
