After Charlie Countryman's mother died in bed before his eyes, he tried to suppress the pain with pills. After taking a small overdose, he suddenly sees his mother again, who asks him to simply travel to Bucharest for her. There he not only comes into contact with drugs, but also meets the irresistible Gabi. But the love he feels for her has a downside as well as the beautiful moments. Because her ex-husband Nigel, a psychotic gang boss, doesn't like it and Charlie soon has to ask himself whether he is actually ready to die for Gabi.

The film-dienst describes Lang Lebe Charlie Countryman as a “genre finger exercise that relies on clichés instead of unfolding originality”. Nevertheless, the critic finds "in view of the top-class cast and the ironic gesture" that the film "still offers some entertainment value". The cinema critic sees Lang Lebe Charlie Countryman as a "hypnotic mix of drug thriller and character portrait in which the emotional depths of the main character become the engine of a tender love story"
