geography

The village is located on the Richenthalerbach west of the Wigger . Immediately to the west of the village, the partially wooded Buchberg rises to a height of 571 m. ü. M. on. Various hamlets belonged to the former municipality of Langnau: Lupfen (1.1 km southwest; 491 m above sea level) is located at the southern foot of the Buchberg, Gishalden west of the village, Altental 1.5 km west, Am Berg 1.1 km northwest at Foot of the heavily wooded Brettschellenberg (636 m. Above sea level).

The only earlier part of the municipality is An der Wigerten on the right bank of the Wigger (700 m east of the village). On both sides of the river is the most distant and after the village largest district Mehlsecken (1.7 km north of the village, only 1 km away from Reiden ). Almost half of the former municipality area (47.6%) is used for agriculture. But an unusually high proportion of the local area (41.4%) is covered by forest and wood. Almost the entire west of the former municipality belongs to the Langnauerwald . The remainder of 10.1% is settlement area.

Langnau bei Reiden bordered on Dagmersellen , Pfaffnau , Reiden , Richenthal and Wikon in the canton of Lucerne, as well as on Brittnau in the canton of Aargau.

population

Population development

The population grew massively between 1798 and 1837 (1798–1837: +54.0%). The population of 1837 is the highest value ever recorded. By 1900 there was a huge emigration towards industrial centers (1837–1900: −33.6%). The population growth almost made up for these losses by 1930 (1900–1930: +33.8%). Thereafter, the number of residents remained stable until 1960, before a second emigration phase followed until 1980 (1960–1980: −11.0%). There was significant growth up to the turn of the millennium (1980–2000: +21.1%). Since then the population has stagnated.
