Larry James Patey (born March 19, 1953 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 757 games for the California Golden Seals , St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers in the course of his playing career between 1973 and 1985 National Hockey League has contested on the position of the center . His younger brother Doug was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Patey was born in Toronto, Canada , but made the leap into the professional field via the US junior system in 1973. Although Patex was from the Niagara Falls Flyers of the Association Ontario Hockey drafted , but he decided to study at Boston University . However, since he was not eligible to play for the university's ice hockey team, the center forward ran in the 1972/73 season for the Braintree Hawks in the New England Junior Hockey League . In the summer of 1937, the Canadian was both in the NHL Amateur Draft 1973 by the California Golden Seals from the National Hockey League in the ninth round in 130th place and the New England Whalers from the World Hockey Association competing with the NHL in the WHA Amateur Draft 1973 Selected in the fifth round in 53rd position.
The attacker then switched to the professional field for the 1973/74 season and initially ran for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in the Western Hockey League . His 83 points in 76 games in his first season as a pro earned him the league's rookie of the year . He also made his debut in a game for the California Golden Seals in the NHL. With the beginning of the 1974/75 season Patey was a regular with the Golden Seals. In his first full NHL season, he was able to collect 45 points scorer in 79 games. After he got off to a good start in his second league year, he was given a third-round suffrage in the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 to the St. Louis Blues in November 1975 , which in return Wayne Merrick ceded to the Californians.
In St. Louis the offensive player found a new sporting home for the rest of this and the following eight seasons. In the Blues, Patey played a more defensive role than in the California Golden Seals. Nevertheless, he was responsible for 15 to 20 goals and nearly 40 points per season. Particularly in shorthanded situations , the Canadians developed over the years to a specialist. So he scored eight of his 22 goals this season in the 1980/81 season , with which he set a franchise record.
