Laub is a district of the town of Schönsee in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf in Bavaria .

Geographical location

The 40 or so buildings that belong to Laub are located on a plateau, the highest point of which is the Stückberg with a height of 808.6 m. On the western outskirts of Schönsee, a narrow street named Am Lauber Berg branches off from the road SAD44 , which leads in a wide curve northwest to Laub and behind Laub southwest to Schwand, where it joins the road SAD44 again. Schönsee is around 3 kilometers away by road.

climate

Due to the unprotected altitude to the east, the climate in foliage is very harsh. The summers are wet, cold and short, the winters are long, cold and snowy. Often the plateau is covered by clouds and fog. In winter there is often a sharp icy east wind called the Bohemian wind .

history

Laub was first mentioned in writing in 1285 in the Duke's Surbar as the property of Duke Ludwig II of Upper Bavaria . It formed with the neighboring village Schwand a common municipality Schwand and Laub , which is listed in writing in 1360 as Swendet and Laube .

Its last mayor was Josef Ebnet (1897–1978, house name: Koundl) from 1945 until Schwand was incorporated into Schönsee on January 1, 1972.

On March 23, 1913 (Easter), foliage was listed as part of the Schönsee parish with 17 houses and 98 inhabitants. On December 31, 1990, Laub had 92 inhabitants and belonged to the parish of Schönsee.

Culture and sights

A village square with an old linden tree and a chapel is in the middle of the village. At the farmhouses there are still a few old bakehouses made of rubble stones, in which bread was baked in the past.

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture is very difficult and not very productive due to the harsh climate and the stony, poor soil. The fields and meadows are only small. Most of the residents of Laub go to work in addition to their agriculture in the area from Schönsee to Vohenstrauss and Regensburg. There is a craft business and an inn in Laub.
