Laurentius Stenzler

Laurentius Stenzler (born July 31, 1698 in Greifswald , † February 8, 1778 in Greifswald; actually Lorenz Stenzler ) was a Protestant theologian and Swedish-Pomeranian general superintendent .

Laurentius Stenzler was the son of the citizen Joachim Stenzler and Margarete Rheinke, the daughter of a Greifswald cooper . After attending school in Anklam , he enrolled at the University of Greifswald at Easter 1716 to study languages, history, philosophy, mathematics, astronomy and theology. He also studied at the University of Jena for two years .

From 1725 to 1736 Stenzler worked as vice rector in his hometown Greifswald . In 1731 he received his master's degree and in 1737 became professor of logic and metaphysics and in 1738 doctor of theology. In 1741 he was appointed professor of theology and pastor at St. Marien in Greifswald .

After 22 years in this office, he was appointed General Superintendent of Western Pomerania as the successor to Jakob Heinrich von Balthasar . He held this office until his death at the age of 80. On February 16, 1778 he was buried in the St. Marien Church in Greifswald. Bernhard Friedrich Quistorp was his successor .

Laurentius Stenzler was married to Ida Auguste Lütkemann, daughter of the general superintendent Timotheus Lütkemann , from 1737 .
