Michael Christian Rusmeyer
Michael Christian Rusmeyer (also: Russmeyer ) (* August 21, 1686 in Lüneburg ; † August 20, 1745 in Greifswald ) was a Protestant theologian and from 1740 to 1745 general superintendent of Swedish Pomerania .
Live and act
After studying at the University of Jena , Rusmeyer spent three years in Hamburg and Sweden from 1711 , where he wrote treatises on the Trinity and a commentary on the Epistles of John of the New Testament . He then became tutor to Count Reventlow in Copenhagen .
In 1719 he was appointed professor and pastor at St. Marien in Greifswald . In 1740 he was appointed general superintendent for Swedish Pomerania - succeeding Timotheus Lütkemann . He held this office until his death one day before his 59th birthday.
His successor was Jakob Heinrich von Balthasar .
Michael Christian Rusmeyer was a supporter of Philipp Jacob Spener and Pietism . He didn't just make friends with it. His bitterest opponent was the Greifswald professor Jeremias Papke , against whom he defended himself in 1726 in the publication " Abgedrungene Vorstellungen ".
