The film Life once different ( Russian ШиК , international title Shik , alternative title The Suit ) is a drama by the Tajik director Bakhtijor Chudoinasarow from 2003. It was made in cooperation with Russia , Ukraine , Germany and France . The screenplay was written by Oleg Antonov and is a free adaptation of Ray Bradbury's short story The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit (1958).

Three young people who live in a small coastal town on the Black Sea spend their time haphazardly. One day they discover a black pinstripe suit from Gucci in the window of a fashion store in the big city, which they can only get to by ferry. You are now doing everything you can to get this suit in order to appear as successful and self-confident adults. After a few failures, they manage to acquire the suit. They agree to take turns wearing it.
Shtyr uses the suit to upgrade his appearance. In the expensive suit, he walks undisturbed into the champagne reception of a luxury cruise ship. When his mother desperately needs help, he tries in the suit to contact his father, who left the family long ago and works as a successful tailor in town.
Geka wears the suit in hopes of earning the respect of his attractive stepmother Asya, who appears to be cheating on his father by meeting other men. On the one hand he detests Asya for her more or less obvious lightness, on the other hand he seems to be attracted to her.
Dumbo puts on the suit to impress Dina, a beautiful Jewish fishmonger with whom he has fallen one-sidedly; Dina is visibly amused by Dumbo's demeanor, but she uses him primarily to shake off a pushy admirer named Artur.
The experiences of all three youngsters with the suit end in tragedy.
Locations
Life was shot in a different way in the Crimea in the cities of Sevastopol , Yalta and the surrounding area. The first scene was shot in the limestone quarries of Inkerman Cave Fortress .

The world premiere of Shik took place on February 9, 2003 at the Berlinale Talents . In Russia, the film premiered on July 23, 2003 at the Moscow International Film Festival . On German television , life was broadcast for the first time on January 5, 2006 in the first program of ARD.
