action
Mesa High School's five students, Olivia White, Mo Banjeree, Charlie Delgado, Stella Yamada, and Wen Gifford, are all detained with Miss Reznik. This is mad at the school principal Brenigan, because he has moved the music room to the basement because of a new gym for the soccer team. Have the students clean up the music room while Miss Reznik goes to the principal to complain. The five students form a melody through the noises in the room and Olivia begins to sing Turn Up the Music . When the teacher catches the students making music, they first think they are in trouble again. Instead, Miss Reznik praises the students and wants to start a band with them. However, everyone except Wen refuses to participate in the band. Because Stella is ignored by her family at home, she wants to meet the others in Dante's pizzeria. She informs the others that they will be performing at the Halloween party and the Rising Star talent competition. The others are not immediately enthusiastic because the student band Mudslide Crush will be performing at the party . However, Olivia, Charlie and Mo give each other a jolt and join the band. However, the first rehearsal turns into a disaster and Mo and Charlie are about to give up when Olivia sings the song Somebody and moves her to stay. Before each rehearsal, they drink “Mel's lemonade”, which is available in a machine in front of the music room. They think about a band name for a long time, but they can't think of any.
During a lunch break, Olivia is cornered by Ray Beech, lead singer of Mudslide Crush , Jules and Patty. Stella rushes to help Olivia and spits at Ray with lemonade. Ray is beside himself and when Mr. Brenigan shows up, he claims that Olivia and the others started and then spat on him with lemonade. This is how the band got their name Lemonade Mouth . When they want to drink lemonade again before a band rehearsal, they discover that the machine should be removed. You need to learn that the vending machine has to be removed because of a beverage sponsor of the gym. Later, Mo has to watch her boyfriend Scott flirt with another girl.
At the Halloween party, they sing the song Determinate , composed by Wen and Olivia, and are cheered by the guests. Mr. Brenigan loves the song too, but he gets angry when Stella informs the guests that the lemonade machine should be phased out. They also sing the rebellious song Here We Go and Brenigan turns the band off. The following day, the band's headmaster threatened that they would all be suspended from school if they were to sing there again. When they later see Lemonade Mouth banners all over town , they decide to perform at Dante's pizzeria. Mo sings the song She's So Gone there . The song Determinate is also played on the radio.
During this time, the five students not only become stars at their school, but also best friends. This way they learn a lot from each other. Mo has to admit that she will never be the daughter her father wants. Charlie is always compared to his older brother by his parents. Stella realizes that her family has let her down. Who can not handle the fact that his father has a 28-year-old student as a friend whom he now wants to marry. And Olivia is deeply shocked when her cat, which belonged to her dead mother, dies and she tells her friends that her father is in prison and she is ashamed of him. Then they record the song More Than A Band .
A few days later the band is unlucky again: Charlie confesses his love to Mo. However, she tells him that she only feels friendship. Olivia loses her voice, Mo has a temperature of 39 degrees, Charlie breaks his fingers and Wen gets a black eye when hanging a picture and can no longer see properly. Who wants to cancel everything that Olivia can't understand because they worked so hard for it. The two argue. Then she tells him that she only joined Lemonade Mouth because of him.
Stella calls everyone one morning and tells them to come to school. When they arrive, they have to watch the lemonade machine being carried out of school. The friends want to stop the men from taking the machine away when the police show up and arrest the students. Since they are minors, they are put in a holding cell. There they speak out and decide to appear at Rising Star despite their disabilities. When they are released from prison, they all speak to their families as well.
Rising Star also features Mudslide Crush with Don't Ya Wish U Were Us? on. Then Lemonade Mouth go on stage and want to sing Determinate . However, no one except Stella is able to play or sing. Scott sees this and decides to help the band, even if Ray says that he then has to leave Mudslide Crush . Lemonade Mouth are about to leave the stage when a girl starts singing the song. Scott also supports Stella as a guitarist, while more and more of the audience sing the song. The band is touched even though they don't win.
After the gig, Scott and Mo make up again. Charlie sees and accepts and meets a new girl, while Wen gives Olivia a new kitten. Who does Olivia confess to being friends with his stepmother. At Wen's father's wedding, Stella tells the man next to her that Wen is her bandmate, and the man tells her that Wen's father is an old college buddy of his. He also says that he used to have a band and now owns a very successful lemonade company. Stella pauses and asks if he's Mel. He says yes. Mel donates a new music room that has a lemonade machine. Miss Reznik is finally happy. In the end, Olivia goes to a mailbox with a letter telling the story of how Lemonade Mouth was founded and sends it to her father. She says she can't wait to tell him the full story. The film ends with an appearance at Madison Square Garden where they sing Breakthrough .

reception
criticism
“An entertainment film with well-developed characters and catchy music for a young audience. Of course, it doesn't offer much that is new, especially since the proximity to the Disney hit films of the "High School Musical" series is quite intentional. "
