Lengefeld observation point
The Lengefelder Warte (or Abbenthalswarte) is located in the municipality of Anrode in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .
location
The control room is on the federal road 247 from Mühlhausen to Dingelstädt , an old road crossing between the Free Imperial City of Mühlhausen and the Electoral Mainz Eichsfeld . It is located at about 375 m above sea level. NHN on the eastern roof of the Eichsfelder Höhe between the forest area of the Hollau and the Langen Mark . Neighboring towns are Helmsdorf in the north, Zella in the northeast, Horsmar in the east, the eponymous town Lengefeld in the southeast and Bickenriede in the south.
history
It is the only one of the former nine waiting areas of the Mühlhausen Landgraben to be preserved. The built around 1360/80 circular tower is made of rubble masonry and has a conical roof . The control room has a height of 13.5 m and a diameter of about 5.80 m with a wall thickness between 0.70 and 1.00 m.
From the Eigenröder and the Eigenriedener Warte, only remains of the foundation and wall are preserved. To secure the city territory and the city corridor of the free imperial city of Mühlhausen, the so-called Landwehr , a defense system made up of partially double trenches , up to three ramparts and nine waiting areas at the most important road openings, was built from the middle of the 14th century . The course of the land ditch with a length of approx. 24 km in the west and north of the territory borders on the Eichsfeld . This is followed by the neighboring military forces. On the Eichsfeld side of the ditch there has been an infirmary since the Middle Ages, also known as "Black Pants".
Todays situation
Adjacent to the tower is an old half-timbered building in which an inn has been operated since the 1930s and which has been expanded into a hotel. It is not possible to visit the inside of the tower. Some hiking trails lead from the Lengefelder Warte into the area.
